Charleston South Carolina

Well I continue with the tradition of being the worst blogger in the history of blogging!!!  Tiff actually mentioned tonight that I may actually be the first person to be actually fired from blogging.  What can I say - my intentions are good - but my time is limited.  It's just hard to stop having soooo much fun and blog. OK time to get to the what's been going on.

Saturday we left late - and were late meeting Andrew and Tiff at the border.  The first day was a long drive but we kept busy and happy by enjoying the scenery and good music.  We made it to Summersville, West Virgina.  The hotel was packed with people from Ontario ... I'm not kidding 9 out of every 10 cars were Ontario plates.  Not surprising as it was last day of March Break and everyone was on their way back from Florida - all with their shorts, sandals and deep tans and LOTS of kids.  Honestly the nosiest hotel we have ever stayed in and I don't think anyone slept all night.  We had dinner at a "authentic Mexican " hmmmmm OK.

Next day we were on the road bright and early, thankfully heading in the other direction of the other Ontarions.  We made a stop at JR's which has the best prices EVER - made some purchases and on our way.  We finally pulled into our hotel around 6 and tired but happy headed to Ruby Tuesday's  for dinner - OMG I have not laughed that hard in many many years, all 4 of us were in tears and our stomach's hurting from laughing so hard.  Our waiter was ... hmmmmmm  lets just say - interesting and a charmer - the stories he told were over the top and we just had so much fun .. and to top it off good food.  Taxi there and back so the wine flowed.

OK - today.  We were up bright and early, had breakfast.  Bagels and cream cheese was the fan for most of us except Glenn, he had waffles and instead of grabbing the packaged butter, he thought the waffle batter was butter and started to pour himself a cup...haha.  Thankfully the lady working breakfast stepped in and saved the day. After that, Glenn felt the need to steal a whole bottle of syrup to himself...what a guy! It was a beautiful day for driving in our Model A's, warm and sunny and not a cloud in the sky! Time to jump in our cars and start a day of touring in downtown Carleston. What a city. Giant houses with tons of character, winding roads leading to cobblestone streets and more history than you would ever learn in school.  We parked the A's and decided to continue the tour on foot.  Even though it's a Monday afternoon there were tourists flooding the streets.  After leaving downtown Charleston we decided to check out Gone With the Wind Land - aka plantation land.  We went to the recommended Middleton place for lunch first - however, they forgot to tell us that you had to pay a $25.00 admission fee to get into the grounds before you even get to the restaurant. OK plan B - we headed to Drayton Plantation the only surviving plantation of Shermans Troops.  The woman at the gate was like everyone else in the south - full of southern hospitality and suggested we go for lunch first and come back for the 4 o'clock tour.  She sent us to a "soup kitchen" with 126 varieties of soup and fresh bread - |YUM ... good suggestion .. GREAT lunch.  Back to Drayton for the tour.

Interesting tour, the stories are fascinating and we all soaked up the history.  On the way home, it was rush hour but the southern hospitality continued and everyone was respectful of the A's lots of ahooga's and waves as we headed back to the hotel.  Much to our surprise 7 other A's in the parking lot, right by our room - ends up it's a group from Kentucky, also heading to the meet in St. Augustine.  We had a nice chat while we enjoyed wine and beer and as always Model A'ers were so nice and fun to talk too.

Finally we decided it was time for dinner but too much wine and beer to drink.  So being the responsible adults we are we once again called a cab.  45 minutes later no cab but another guest at the hotel offered to drive us to a restaurant - another really great meal and laughing till we cried, we called a cab to take us back to the hotel.  Guess what an hour later and NO cab ... so Andrew marches into the restaurant and asks for help - next thing you know a waiter is out and taking us back to our hotel.  Apparently cabs are hard to come by in Charleston - and everyone who lives here seems to agree and are willing to jump in and do whatever it takes to make up for the lack of cabs in the area.

Whew - OK I think we are up to date - it is now 11:46 and we are out in the lovely Charleston evening - enjoying .. hmm let me see - Andrew another Bud, Glenn a Kahlua, Tiff a red wine, Me a white wine - and the giggling continues.  I must mention though Tiff did write part of this blog - and did a fantastic job.  We've decided we are going to share the blogging till they leave.  Anyway, time to join the gang and get back to the giggles - we'll keep you posted and I'll get pictures and video's up soon. :-)

Night all
