This is the new theme for tours. Either that or "Yoga pants are a girl’s best friend!"
Well it was the inaugural tour of the season off to Sterling for the fourth year in a row. The group keeps getting smaller and smaller but still fun to get out in the A, eat, drink, see people we only see once a year, eat, drink, wander the flea market of greasy, rusty car parts (sorry guys but really that's all it is), eat, drink, catch up, eat, drink, sleep then repeat.
We were very lucky with the weather for a change. Sterling trip is typically cold, damp and rainy. This weekend, sunny, hot and humid.
Friday we drove out with Bob, Frank, Winnie and Joe and had a great run through to Millbrook where we stopped for lunch. The usual restaurant that we ate at had changed hands and I must admit I am glad. The new couple that took over have really brightened it up, changed the menu and the food was very nice. The back roads were bursting with green as we made our way to Trenton. We arrived about 2:30 thinking we would be the first to arrive but Greg and Eddie were already there and soon the drinks were flowing freely and everyone was chattering away.
Bill and Tina arrived alone stating that they had lost Mike and Jean along the way and Whitey and Kathy's car would be arriving on a flat bed ..... ahh the joys of travelling with the Model A :-)
The flat bed finally arrived with Whitey's car and soon the guys had it fixed up ... don't ask me what was wrong with it, because I was still chattering away. Mike and Jean still hadn't arrived when we all headed out to Tommy's for dinner. A good meal and time was had by all. Back to the hotel more chattering, drinks and yes you guessed it food.
Saturday morning the sun was shining and we headed out to Sterling for the flea market bright and early. No great finds or treasures for ourselves or the club. Everyone else arrived shortly afterwards and Winnie, Joe, Bob, Frank, Glenn and I decided to head to Lake on the Mountain in Prince Edward County for lunch. A beautiful drive through the county! Who knew that the http://www.lakeonthemountain.com/ would be so busy!! Luckily they could fit us inside though the patio would have been our preference. Apparently this was their opening weekend and with the weather being as nice as it was the locals flocked to check out the new menu and enjoy lunch. This year’s menu did not disappoint. The mussels were excellent.. oh my so good, and I had the Portobello Mushroom and goats cheese Panini with caramelized onions, arugula and sun dried tomato pesto ... OH so very very tasty. Their local Pinot wine was also a treat. I think everyone enjoyed their meal. Bob's daughter joined us for lunch and it was great to meet with her as well. Just as we were finishing you could see the winds really pick up, the temperature start to drop and then the crashes of thunder - time to hit the dusty trail! The rain lasted about 10 minutes then into sunshine again, but not before driving down the construction zone in Main St Picton getting the A's looking like Jeeps that had been off roading (I exaggerate to make my point).
Back at the hotel I thought I had time to a quick power nap before dinner, but the gathering picnic table was outside our room and although I couldn't hear the conversation I found myself straining to see if I was missing anything - therefore - NO NAP. Off to eat ... again! Golden Valley, http://www.goldenvalleyrestaurant.com/ traditional Saturday night eating place for the Sterling Tour. This time Glenn and I had the fish and chips and both were disappointed in them, we will know better next time as we have always been happy with the food we have had their in the past. Rita and Bill joined the group for diner and it was nice to sit with them and catch up.
Back to the hotel and it was still nice enough to sit outside and chat, drink and amazingly enough not eat! We talked about everything from WWI and II, to ancestry to TV shows and everything in between. A very pleasant evening but seeing Glenn and I did not finish our meal we were hungry when we went back to our room, so crackers and cheese in bed ... oh my!!! Not a good idea. I should listen to my god-mother, NEVER eat cheese before bed. A horrible night’s sleep.
Sunday morning had Glenn and I up early and off for breakfast at Grannies Kitchen which was very friendly and good. Of course there was a lot of interest in the car from a gentleman that I could swear was Terry Bradshaw’s twin brother. We then headed back to the flea market to pick up some photo's that we meant to get before we left on Saturday. Very interesting photo's of old car wrecks. I know it sounds morbid but actually the photo's are quite interesting but will stay in the garage :-)
We made it back to the hotel in time to pack, check out and head off with a very small group to Cobourg for Brunch. Yes MORE food .. OMG!!! Some new club members joined us and we did the buffet justice. Everyone headed their own way as we headed home, worried about the threat of heavy rain but we made it home without a drop and even took the top down in Port Perry.
All in all an enjoyable weekend, we missed a lot of the regulars in Sterling still a good time was had by all. I have a suggestion though, I think that with every club membership we should all be required to get a gym membership as well ... now I am off to find my Yoga pants cause these jeans are just .. well .. tight!!!
