Trying to catch up

The weather started off looking like it could rain but as cleared up into a beautiful hot and sunny day - YEAH.

Today it was off to Watkins Glen, a short drive but some of the hills - WHEW, a challenge for Ceclia as she laboured her way up them, thankfully "slow vechicles keep to the right" so we didn't hold up any traffic as everyone raced past with a smile and a wave.

The big NASCAR race is in Watkins Glen this weekend and it was evident that the town was preparing to be indendated with race fans. Welcome signs hung everywhere, and large 18 wheelers rolled into town carrying the race cars. Typically "regular cars are allowed to do laps around the track behind a pace car (yeah right like we would need a pace car) however, due to all the activity that is not allowed this week :-( Oh well, would have been an experience, but.

We wondered some antique stores, mainly featuring race memorabilia in hopes of selling it to the enslaught of face fans and then found a nice patio by the marina to have a beer and a glass of wine before tackling the hills back to Ithica. As always LOTS of interest in the car, chatted to many interesting folks from all over.

Now I sit and BLOG as Glenn tinkers with the engine. Why? I don't know she seems to be running fine to me, but maybe just doing some maintenance before our 200 mile drive to Bennington tomorrow.

I know in the time we had no internet access I missed a lot of details on the holidays and am trying to jog my memory to get them written.

I can tell you that on Monday we visited Sonnenberg Gardens http://www.sonnenberg.org/ Estate Mansion and historic state park. The gardens were gorgeous, asked to pick a favourite out all all the very unique styles of gardens would be hard. I loved them all, I guess that is why they had so many, the had the space and money to create them and couldn't pick just one.

We have obviously done a lot of touring around the lakes, passing through very quient and pretty towns, traveling as close to the edge of the lakes as possible. Talking to locals and getting great recommendations on roads to take, places to see - we would never had known about the pier in Cayuga had a wonderful gentleman not told us to go down and see the bizzare and unique collection of boathouses.

Well I think that's it for now, again a beautiful night, waterfront dining at the same place we had breakfast. We are managing on 2 meals a day - a later and big breakfast and dinner. I may write more tonight or try and edit the posts I have with more details, however, a very early start in the morning as we have to get to Bennington so that Cecilia can have her "photo shot" for the calender before the big Hemmings cruise in starts at 5:00.
